Hope for Prisoners

The prison system is expected to reform prisoners and make them into better citizens. Reformation and deterrence are supposed to be achieved by punishing a wrongdoer, but the state of affairs in the Sri Lankan Prisons makes the chances of these happening very slim. In this regard we will launch into the following actions-

Action points

• We should champion a system  to get prisoners engaged in, in-house medium scale manufacturing projects which will bring out their creativity and other talents which will give them a new meaning and perspective to life.

• There are allegedly many in both prison and remand prison who are unable to afford to pay their fine(s). We need to formulate a system to pay these fines off and get them released.

• It is also reported that many released prisoners find it difficult to start life again. Building a fund for this purpose may be a step in the right direction.
