Our Mission
To gather together civic minded citizens and like minded civil society groups who are committed to uphold Integrity, Accountability, Equality, Inclusivity, Non-violence and work towards;
“TRUE PEACE” through genuine reconciliation.
Good governance by way of establishing true democracy and the rule of law.
Sustainable development of the country by way of increasing foreign investment, more industries, more jobs, which will make Sri Lanka the True Miracle of Asia, not limited by a mere slogan.
The Call
The call is to all civic minded citizens who believe that it is time that Sri Lankans domiciled in the country (and those who are currently overseas) act in one accord to make a change for the betterment of Sri Lanka., upholding Integrity as the corner stone of all efforts; this way we can never go wrong!
More often than not when reference is made about civil society, we think of large numbers of people from the grass-roots. We’ve seen the less affluent masses being influenced by corrupt politicians and their votes gained by false promises. But this does not mean they are the only segment that has a “voice” in our country.
My friend, we who are either employers or employees who contribute to the country’s GDP, have a legitimate right to voice our opinion.
The private sector for example has not tapped into the potential of its “voice”. Whether one likes it or not, the private sector is the ‘engine of growth’ in the country; it is high time that the Private Sector took its rightful place.
If one looks at the Public sector on the other hand, it is Public sector officials; most of whom are from the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who are responsible in principle, for running state machinery. Yet in practice, the Public sector officials have been reduced to the level of “minions” of politicians. This needs to be changed now!
We are NOT stooges of the Government in power or of the Opposition.
We do not want to wait on the sidelines criticizing everything and everyone. We want to be a proactive part of the solution.
We believe, as Mahatma Gandhi said, that “There is no road to peace but Peace is the road.”
We will strive to address all root causes and grievances (which are not very many) pertaining to the ethnic conflict and suggest solutions that are acceptable to us all. Our end goal is that our mother land will be a haven for all Sri Lanka’s children to live with equal dignity, free of discrimination pertaining to ethnicity, language, religion or caste and live in peace in the true sense of the word.
If the ethnic conflict is not solved we cannot move forward as a country. The war came to an end in 2009; yet tensions remain. What progress have we made; what more needs to be said?
When the various anti-government diaspora organizations and the segments of the international community who are critical of the Sri Lankan government, see evidence of the commitment of the educated SRI LANKAN civil society, striving to do things right by standing up for equality, transparency, good governance and taking a stand against injustice, corruption and crime; they will come to terms that the Sri Lankans have, after all, taken their due place in safeguarding the rights of all Sri Lankans devoid of any hidden agendas. They will see that we are working toward the sole purpose of saving both the country and its image, which is currently under threat, to say the least.
We must remind ourselves that while the North does not belong exclusively to the Tamil brethren, that Sri Lanka in its entirety does not belong exclusively to the Sinhalese, either. The entirety of Sri Lanka is homeland for all of Mother Lanka’s children. This is a fact.
Our most important reward will be a legacy of peace for our children that will replace the inheritance of a war torn country which our parents gave us.
